Championship Show 2014

CRITIQUES

Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Judge: Carol Worswick (Dolyharp)

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge miniature longhairs at their show, and the exhibitor’s for their entries’. While i was   pleased with my principal winner’s, front construction  is a concern, and while many look good stacked, on the move proved a different story, with little rear drive and front extension. I found many with dirty teeth, which I find appalling;  teeth cleaning is basic health care.

On the plus side, temperament and presentation on the whole was good. Some would have benefited from a little extra weight.  I found no suspect mouths or kinked tails; two exhibits were well over the desired weight.

Dachshund (Miniature Wire Haired)

Judge: Fay Hutchings (Collidach)

I enjoyed this appointment very much and thank the Club for inviting me in the absence of my very dear friend Birgit Hayward who was unable to judge due to illness.  I wish her a speedy recovery, and so wish ,she will be able to fulfil her appointment next year, as I know how much she was looking forward to it. I also would like to thank my ring stewards, Ian Seath and Abby Lusty who did a great job, I couldn't ask for more.  I don't do statues so moved them a fair bit.  Presentation on the whole was OK but many had dirty teeth, and a few with long nails which for me is unacceptable, many lacked muscle tone too, and please (some) look at your presentation of coat, some heads looked more like schnauzers than dachshunds, I am and I sure others, are always happy to help, so please ask.  Temperaments were good, A few puppies unsure of their surroundings, but that will come with time.

I was over the moon with my top winners, they looked like peas in a pod when they came into challenge and was thrilled to see them do well in Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show.

Loved this baby, gorgeous head, correct bite, lovely reach of neck in to correct shoulders.  Loved him on the move with super hind movement and excellent quarters and reach in front.  I could have watched him move all day, and he certainly could. Played up a little with another handler in challenge, but had already done enough for me, could find nothing to take the CC from him today, so it was his.  lost out to BOB by a smidge. A baby with a bright future.  Went on to win Best Puppy in Show under Sigurd Wilberg, there was no one more prouder than me.
